I've shot with the profoto several times... I have to agree that this is not built the same. It works good for testing out lighting situations and stuff in my own studio. Don't have a need to buy profoto level at the moment and just rent the stuff depending on the clients needs anyways. :)

ya... I was trying to decide between this or using some of the money to go towards a new lens. I opted for this at the moment. The 85mm 1.2 was just a bit out of reach this month. Have to stick with the 1.8 a bit longer. :hs:

It is MUCH lighter than i expected it to be. A bit heavy when using the full combo of 5d, grip, RRS l-bracket (ya... I'm lazy and don't want to take it off :o), 70-200 2.8IS, and ring flash. Nothing too bad tho. Prob just boom mount it in the studio a lot if I had to guess. We'll see.

$400 is nothing when it comes to photography and studio lighting. :hs:

Not to mention the profoto ringlight is $2300 for just the head... no powerpack at all. :hs:

So THAT'S how they get that lighting effect. I always thought it was partially created with PS. Neato.

At full power you get ~f16 at 10 feet (iso 100) so it will go quite a ways... not sure what it would to to group shots but maybe of just the bride.... dunno if that look would work tho :dunno:
