I know its nothing special, but im happy about my purchse. Got it from a friend who C and R'd it a few years ago. 1939, refurbished Mosin. I cant wait to shoot it, now i just need to order some Ammo, and its time to go:bigthumb:

best thing is no transfer fees or 10 day wait. Since its over 50 years old and a curio and relic purchase, just have to give some info to the guy and its mine.:bigthumb::bigthumb:

I just bought one yesturday at Big 5....$133 after all said and done. Will pick up on the 12 :hs:

Does anyone know about a new law stating that a new lock must be available for the rifle at the time of pickup? I was told that I had to buy a lock for it. :ugh:

I thought you just needed to provide a recipt for an approved lock purchased within 30 days of the DROS or sign an affadavit saying that you own an approved safe.

Yep. When I bought my M38, I had to buy a lock because my safe wasn't on the approved list. :ugh2:

You don't have to buy a lock it the gun comes with one.

If you live near a Walmart they have a CA DOJ approved lock for $5. It's a light blue cable lock.

Yea...that was it. But I didnt want to get into all the details :o My bad.

But I ended up buy one from them...$10 for a cheap cable lock that looks like something I can break with a couple of pliers :hs: I actually still have a couple locks from when the local range was GIVING them away...but of course, there was no reciept for it.

I think they have to buy them if the safe they own isn't on the list of "safe" safes. I assume you can return them a few days later though.

Yea they made me buy one too at Big 5, so i had to get that same lock. I returned it hte next day. They said i could return it the same day i just had to take the shotgun out to the car first. Now i have a Stack-on Cabinet, which is approved, but i dont know where the reciept is, which sucks.

but Big 5 doesnt take those locks because they need to photo copy a reciept, no reciept= no gun, at least thats what they told me.

not with teh fees here. Id rather remove cosmo then pay 50 bucks to transfer a damn 100 buck rifle. haha

And yea, that lock thing bugged me, because i brought in a CA approved trigger lock, and they said i didnt have a reciept so i couldnt use it.

What is cosmoline? Is that the vaseline looking stuff on the gun? The guy that sold me the rifle told me that I had to clean it before using.

thats the stuff. its an grease/oil that preserved the rifle. But ive heard its a bitch to clean off. Mixture of steam, hot mineral spirits, boiling water, baking, dishwashing, and shooting should get it all out. But get it all out before you shoot, since (especially for SKS's) you get a chance of slamfires.
