After a couple of weeks of research on a suitable Series 70 to build on this winter, I went to my local faithful shop this afternoon and brought home a Dan Wesson Point man 7 in .45.

I nixed the STI build, and went with a Dan Wesson Point Man 7 to fool around with this winter. Destined to be used in CDP for IDPA, and my Single Stack/Limited 10 gun for USPSA/IPSC.

Well, this is what she looks like before I molest her. I'll probably shoot a match with her stock, then off to my 1911 smith for some upgrades.

    Here are the specs:
    · Forged, one piece match grade barrel and bushing.

    · Round top slide with Bo-Mar style adjustable target sight

    · Hand polished flat surfaces with contrasting bead blasted rounds

    · Flat, all steel 20-LPI checkered mainspring housing

    · Front and rear cocking serrations

    · Beveled magwell

    · All sharp edges de-horned by hand

    · Lowered and flared ejection port

    · Hand polished feed ramp

    · Ed Brown slide stop

    · Ed Brown memory groove grip safety

    · Tactical extended thumb safety

    · One piece full length stainless guide rod

    · Commander style match hammer

    · Match grade sear

    · Aluminum trigger with stainless bow

    · Extended serrated magazine catch

    · Wolff springs used exclusively

    · Diamond checkered coco-bolo grips

    · Tuned, machined, internal extractor

    · Test fired for reliability

    · 38 ounces unloaded

The money shot and what sold me on this gun. Lock up on the slide and and fit with the barrel is superb.

Now the fun begins, S&A Magwell, Wilson extended slide stop, Extended mag release, ambi Safety and Fiber optic front sight.

BTW, if I ever get heavily involved in competition shooting, I think I'd want one of these.

yeah, that was the original plan actually. But I've got a baby on the way, and I have to start thinking more reasonable. Plus, I'm really impatient and hate having to order my guns online. I was in and out of the Store in literally 5 minutes.

" hey, ya'll got a Dan Wesson PM7 in stock?"

    "yup"

"grab one and meet me at the regster with the paper work"

    -slides out my CCW

There's something to be said about being able to just go to the store and buy it.

Plus, the thing that killed it for me, and I hate that STI does this, but their roll marks are just GOD AWFUL. I wasn't too crazy about when Kimbers when they first came out. It grew on me, but I think STI's are just a little to gawdy for my taste. Those serrations are kind of cool though. I use, and like front serrations.

Enlighten me on 'roll marks'. I'm 1911 illiterate.

oh, yeah, np. They're the etching on the side of the slide. Referring to the "USPSA" that's stamped on the side of the slide, that's the "roll mark". I think they're too big, blocky and gawdy. Then again, like I said, when the Kimbers first came out I didn't like those either. Their not too bad now, but at least they look somewhat classy.

Doesn't really matter because this one is going to be a game gun, far from a trophy single stack.

Ah, thanks for the EDU. And, I concur. Infact, I was just emailing STI to see if it could be ordered without that God awful writing on either side. :mamoru:

I like a clean, uncluttered gun. But, you're right; those serrations are gangster.

yup, I've been in a couple time and bought pistols with my CWP and someone looks at me jealously, because I get to walk out of there with a pistol and they have to wait 3 days. Even funnier with its a 22 SA revolver.

MSRP is somewhere around $1100 I think. But this is Civie prices still, albeit the lowest price around here, because I know all the shops and how they would price it.

    Damn that's a sweet looking gun AB13...gratz.

What do you guys think of the Todd Jarrett pistols? They seem really expensive to me...are they worth all that money?

He's had tons of problems with his Para's lately. In fact I think gun problems knocked him out of contention early at this years nationals.

Stay away from those Cootie. I've seen two puke badly in a match. And I tend to see more people bad mouth them, than praise them "lately". I can maybe count with all my fingers how many I've seen this year in competition, they are not very popular anymore in my area for USPSA anyhow.

Plus they use proprietary parts, their extractors are expensive junk. You are better off spending a few hundred more and getting this...

    http://www.stiguns.com/guns/Edge/Edge.html

They go for $1600 as you see it all over the place.

If I was looking for a double stack .40 in a 1911 or 2011 platform, this is probably the only double stack .40 I'd consider " in that price range". It's the only STI that actually doesn't look too bad.
