depends on the state. In oregon you can buy a pistol private-sale at 18. The 21+ law is for FFL/gun-shows.

btw, that HK is hawt. I'm debating on a USP.45 or Glock 21, myself.

fuckin awesome.. I saw an ad for those colors yesterday in a mag. .

but thats fuckin gay.. "lets do it for a limited time so people will rush out and buy one"

why not offer the guns in that color all the time? I plan on buying a usp tactical .45 one of these days, but not right now..

I just checked. Do you have information that says otherwise? I'd like to take a look (it affects my purchase, then):

I read that as saying that Oregon Law allows anyone over the age of 18 to purchase and possess a long gun (rifle) or handgun (sidearm). However, Federal Law prohibits a federally licensed dealer from selling a sidearm to a person under the age of 21. So by this definition, FFLs would be unable to sell a handgun to me, but I would be able to purchase a handgun from a non-FFL dealer. Likewise, I could probably purchase a handgun from a friend who purchases it from a FFL, assuming he is over 21.

Also, let me just throw this in, if you give someone 21+ the money to buy you a handgun, then it is a felony.

Lets go back to basic Govern't class.

A federal law overrules any pre-existing state law.

yes, but the federal law says an FFL cannot sell to someone under 21... The state law governs private-sales.

so, again, do you have evidence to back up your claims?

You're talking about a "straw purchase", whereby someone who is eligible to buy a firearm does so for someone who is not, i.e. a felon or someone under age or otherwise not eligible to take possession of the weapon from an FFL dealer.

Someone over 18 but under 21 buying a weapon from a private seller is not engaging in a "straw purchase", and states allowing those over 18 to buy from private persons and possess handguns under the age of 21 are not circumventing federal law.

Basic gov't class indeed htex1004.

Thanks for the proper terms. My state allows private purchases and to be "gifted" with handguns under the age of 21. Can even have a handgun with you under 18 under certain circumstances (with guardians permission and using it for target practice, use on a ranch, etc.).

Just thought I'd throw that one thing in since we're talking about handgun laws and how people under the age of 21 can get them...

Just remember you still can't buy ammo for handguns. Shitty Wal-mart won't even sell me .22LR.

When under 21, you can also have a parent buy a handgun for you and "gift" it to you. That is legal here in OR.
