Just got it about 2 weeks ago, only fired 1 round, and going to clean it per instructions...

Proper break in, to clean it after each round for the first 11 rounds.

I have a Midwest Industries RIS foregrip rail coming for it, will allow all kinds of goodies to be attached.

Got some new ammo in the mail today too.

So no, you aren't destroying your barrel life, your just wasting your fucking time. You DON'T 'break in' a chrome lined barrel.

I don't plan on it. For the most part, it will stay empty, other than some grips on it.

The manual direct from Armalite says to do this, so why not trust a firearm manufacturer that has been making them FOREVER...

    Hmm...

Largely because you could be having fun shooting at the range instead of wasting time but its your range trip and hey ammo is expensive now :big grin:

yah, ok, take the advice of a company that is on the downswing in ARs, who would LOVE it if you had to buy a new barrel. Ignore ALL the evidence that 'breaking in' a chrome lined barrel doesn't do shit, AND the evidence that even if you DIDN'T have a chrome barrel, the gains from break in are questionable at best.

For fucks sakes dude, its a 16" gov profile carbine. You aren't shooting 1000 yard matches with it.

Because I was told too by Armalite.

I love how everyone is getting in an uproar about me wanting to take it slow with this... :mamoru:

I'm sure that the first time I go out, I'll clean it a hand full of times and go nuts. I'm sure Armalite just doesn't want you to bump fire it hundreds of times the first time you're out with it.

I have forever to play with it... it's not like I'm "wasting" my time.

I've run my CMMG 20" Chrome line upper for about 800 rounds, I haven't even dragged the bore snake through it ONCE, and it shoots better than 1MOA still. Fucked if I'm going to follow some bullshit about break in.

Plus, think about it. Soft metal rubs against hard metal, which one is going to deform? (hint, it sure as fuck isn't the barrel that is going to get changed when it is chrome lined)

maybe instead of listening blindly you should do you own research to see what your rifle requires, and what it does not require. as panzerace said, "breaking in" chrome lined barrels is pointless.

If you even read on the next page of one of the links above, a lot of the manufacturers even suggest cleaning after the first couple rounds.

I will probably fire 5-10 rounds, clean, and let it go.

I'm not going to be using it as a match rifle.

read better. In fact, read the headings PERIOD. Those are for STAINLESS or CHROME-MOLY barrels (chrome-moly != chrome lined)

Listening to the gun elitists on OT remind why I'm glad I'm not a part of gun crew.

what elitism? We're telling him that its a waste of time to break in a chrome lined barrel, that there is evidence that break in is worthless PERIOD, and we are trying to save him time so that he can shoot his damned rifle.

And if you aren't gun crew, why the fuck are you even here?

You're right. I didn't mean elitism. I meant douchebaggatry. And yeah, I shouldn't be in here. I just saw a few interesting threads and thought I'd see what it was all about, turns out most of them are just like how they are in the main forum.
