I picked it up yesterday and am still getting used to set.....I've never owned a Mac before.

So far I'm really impressed. I'm posting from it now....the airport wireless extends far greater than my old d-link card I had for my old laptop.

    It's the 15" 1.67GHz Superdrive version.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy 512Mb of RAM to take it up to 1Gb Ram and also a bluetooth mouse.

Anything else you suggest I get?

I'm also planning to get an iCurve and a bluetooth keyboard when I have enough money.......:)

Very nice, the extra 512MB will make a big difference.

I've got both the Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse and only use the keyboard, I found the mouse to be very sluggish and unresponsive. I used the bluetooth mouse for maybe a week before shelving it in favor of a corded USB mouse. Something to think about. iCurve is another must have...

yeah...I've heard that from a few ppl....I might have to get a wired one because I'll be doing a lot of work in photoshop and stuff so I'll need an accurate and responsive mouse.....I'll think about it. Thanks Halon X.

If you are doing photoshop work, I would definitely stay away from the Apple Bluetooth mouse. Not sure on the performance of other brands however, there might be one out there that performs equal to a corded mouse. I also prefer to use a 2 button mouse.

If you can't afford everything right now, maybe look at picking up the icurve and a corded mouse and keyboard. I would personally choose having the laptop up in a good ergonomic position over the bluetooth mouse and keyboard. You will definitely need a mouse and keyboard with the icurve however. I guess you could also sit it on a stack of books or something :)

Regardless, you already have the most important piece of the puzzle..

If you do serious work, i'd recommend picking up a wacom tablet.

If you want a Bluetooth mouse to use with your PB, get the Logitech MX900. It's a little pricey compared to the Apple mouse and technically isn't supported, but it works great.

You don't need the base station at all since OS X will detect the mouse fine and when it comes to batteries, the ones that it comes with are just lithium ion AAs. Just pull those out and put some regular AA rechargables in their place. Be sure to use rechargables because the mouse's power management sucks - it expects to be charging ever time it's not in use.

Also, while not all of the buttons work, you can program most into OS X (I've got Expose programmed to work off the buttons on the mouse). It's still better than the single button for those of us that can't deal with one button. :big grin:

This is a little obvious, but get a carrying bag if you don't already have one. Perhaps an extra battery too.

It fits snuggly in my Burton DJ Bag nicely. (It has a laptop compartment)

Maybe I'll get an extra battery later on, but I'll be using it at home the majority of time....so it won't really be an issue I don't think.

A suggestion then... If you're going to keep the PB on AC power most of the time, pull the battery out of it. Laptop batteries need to be cycled, i.e. drained and then recharged. If you're not going to do that, keep the battery out - you'll prolong your battery life and make it better at keeping a good charge.
