    I don't know what's up with it...

I was pierced on monday, It was fine for the first probably 4 days, with the exception of some swelling that has since subsided. Then it got red around it. It's been like that since Friday. I finally managed to get back into the studio, and talk to my piercer about it yesterday, he said that it did not appear to be infected, but that I was probably overdoing the aftercare. SO, I stopped doing the salt soaks, and just cut down to merely rinsing my mouth out after eating, but it still hasn't gotten better. I'm just cleaning it off with a wet q-tip at this point to get the crusties off. I have no known allergies to metal, which is what his first concern was. But my tongue was pierced with surgical steel, and I currently have steel in my ears right now, so I don't think that's it. If it doesn't get better by friday, I'm gonna go back in and see if he'll maybe switch it out for ptfe though. I really don't know what to do.:noes:

this is what it looked like on sunday... it really hasn't changed much

if he thinks you're over doing the aftercare then only rinse once a day with sea salt, most piercers only recommend twice a day anyways.

another thing i've found that works is just ignoring your piercing. dont think about it, dont poke at it, and dont worry about it. sometimes people stress their bodies out by worrying about their piercings and this prolongs healing. my best friend had this problem wth his tattoos. he'd get all worried about them and they'd get all gross. once he stopped worrying they healed fine.

ptfe or titanium might be better. maybe you are cleaning with a soap that is too harsh?

    Me neither. :-x

my boss makes fun of me all the time. What i've resorted to is putting a small bit of fabric band-aid over it while he's there, nobody else minds

Wow..that doesnt sound normal at ALL. Maybe you need a larger size of barbell? Im worried what will happen when you sleep and your mouth swells around it.

I was creating a bit too much suction, and it just came through. I've had no problems with swelling in my sleep. The bead is a bit small, but I'd rather keep it a little bit less noticable at this point. It only happened that one time, so I'm not worried about it happening again.
