Late 2007 model, noticed the past few weeks it has been acting funny, it doesn't show updates as I was still running 10.5.3 bc it never showed a 10.5.4 available and as I downloaded 10.5.4 it said it is not available to install as it wasn't for this model....weird....Itunes never showed an upgrade available so I had to manually dl 7.7

Tonight, I came home from dinner after being on the computer the whole day, it would not connect to my wireless so I restarted the computer and it restarts with the, no sign, the apple icon and a folder with a question mark all flickering and stuff.

Called Apple, started the process and I told the lady what happened and she wanted me to see how much room i had available on my external, and she hurried me off the phone because i told her it would take a few to load on my pc (500gb external) so she gave me a case number and told me to call back when it loads. 5 minutes later I call back and get the "we are outside of our service hours message" FUCKING BITCH did that so she can go home, now i am stuck with a bricked computer until i can call back tommorow evening so they can help me move all my files to my external

    GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness I don't know what she would plan to do with your external hard drive. The folder with the flashing question mark means they the computer does not see a volume with OS X installed. So either the hard drive has died or their is extensive corruption on the drive. Please tell me you had a time machine backup done.

Either way boot to the install disc (put disc in and hold 'c' at startup). Go to Utilities/Disk Utility and see if you see the hard drive on the left. If not, you are fucked. It will need to be replace. If so you can try to do a repair disk, but if that fails, you are fucked again and need to reinstall the OS. But if you have a Time Machine Backup (which if you were smart you will). You can just copy everything over during the install.

CLIFFS: Either way if you don't have a backup you are fucked. It sounds to me as if you had a moron of a Applecare tech.

she had me check for the hard drive and everything came up ok so no repair was needed, she said she was gunna put all the files and restore to the external as I do not have a time machine back-up

That thar would be your first mistake son. No idea what she was gonna do with that external really though unless she went WAY beyond her general scope.

Try booting to the install disc again, and click continue till you get to the select the destination drive screen. Does your Macintosh HD show up there?
It so, click option and see if Archive & Install is an option. If so do the Archive & Install.

Note: archive and install leaves your shit intact, just chucks it all in a folder, and then rebuilds the OS, totally safe unless you got hardware issues, in which case you'd be fucked anyway.

If you were able to start the archive, you're probably ok.
