I'm just keeping track because when I don't keep track I feel like shit and I'm getting tired of trying to read what I've scribbled on paper towels and envelopes recently. Suggestions and comments welcome. Or not.

    23 yo F
don't weigh in for now (too obsessive about it)
    5' 6"
Just moved back home temporarily, so no gym right now.

Goal: Lose weight. I don't know how much, but I'm guessing 40-60 lbs. worth.

    3.2 mile run
light free weights for upper body
    squats w/ 20lb. medicine ball
30 min. 3.5-4mph incline walking on treadmill

I don't like logging food, but I need to make sure I know what it takes to stay in the 1200-1300 calorie range, so for now I will.

    1 yogurt
    1 slice bread w/ 1/2 T. pb and 1 T. strawberry preserves
A few snap peas, celery sticks, baby carrots
    10 oz. can chicken breast
    3 rye crackers
plain pasta w/ portobellos, green bell pepper, tomatoes, garlic and olive oil

GL, some of the ppl on F&N are intimidating but they're actually really supportive to those who try so don't be afraid to ask questions (not to me though, I know jack :)).

    Keep us updated.

Needs moar protein. Get yourself a fitday.com or itrainharder.com or calorieking.com account and start logging, missie! 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, at least.

And you can totally do it

If I ate 189g protein a day, wouldn't it take up my entire 1200 calories? I have CalorieKing and like it a lot, I just logged for so long and made no progress.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, though! :)

Why are you eating only 1200 cals a day? You don't need to go that low right now. You just got back into working out; now is not the time to drop real low.

Try 10-11 cals per pound of bodyweight, 1 gr/protein per lb of bodyweight, and give it a month.

:eek3: That's a lot. I never stopped working out, though. I've been running for a year. I am hungry all the time, though.

If you drop your calories too dramatically your body will think it's starving and you won't lose any weight.

Personally, I think your calories are way too low... Do you know what your BMR is? You shouldn't be eating any lower than that at all. That's what your body needs if you don't do any activity at all. So if you're working out and stuff you will need to ingest more calories in order to maintain a good level of energy to fuel workouts and just get through a day without feeling lethargic.

Do you know what your ratios are?

That is not exactly true ;) Otherwise, anorexics would never get skinny. However, yes- in women sometimes dropping too low in calories and overdoing the workouts WILL result in a stall.

No. When I start logging every bite I ingest and every step I take I get obsessive then destructive. This past year I quit logging everything and just ran for fun and I just realized I've lost 20 lbs. Granted that's not impressive for a year's time, but it's more change than I've seen in years.

I've eaten at 1800, 1500 and now 1200 calories/day. It seems to be working. :dunno: I could stand more protein, though.

I agree... I mean starving works for some people for sure! But is it smart? :nono:

Just be realistic about your goals vintage... yes sometimes you will slip up, sometimes you will have bad days. You just have to push through and find the motivation to keep at it! No one can do it but you.

I've been at this for a year now, I started out at 183lbs and I'm only down to 155lbs now. That's over a year. I have plateaued several times, lost motivation, been sick 5 times, had personal problems conflict with my training, drunk too much, ate too much and basically had a life. It's doable if you want it to be!

    Yep, what Liddy said.

Look, if you want to go low with calories, you have to do it the right way. That means HIGH protein. Otherwise you're just losing lots of muscle in the process. You need to be taking fish oil, maybe some vitamin C, and getting plenty of veggies in the process.

You also can't just eat less and less and less every single month. You need to take diet breaks now and then- where you eat at maintenance for a couple of weeks.

First, I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions. You two have made amazing progress and I take everything you have to say to heart.

I'm determined to get this weight off. I've always been active, just used emotional eating as a crutch. Just getting below 195 is a huge deal as that's the lowest I've seen in years. I couldn't get the weight to budge. I love to run though and have a very active lifestyle and profession.

I think I may bump it up to 1300-1400 calories and see if I feel better and less hungry. I'm also taking a bunch of supplements I left out:

Fish Oil 3 caps AM, 3 caps PM
    Multivitamin
    Cranberry extract
    Vitamin B+C complex

By the way, 183 to 155 is awesome progress!

I'm not sayin' don't run :) You're talking to an endurance runner- when I'm not injured :mamoru: And I hear you on the emotional eating. I've had big issues with eating out of boredom and sleep-eating, it's taken a long time to get a serious handle on them.
