I quit my job to move onto an apprenticeship as a plumber, previous boss was happy for me because I delivered furniture, and let's face it, I'm 22 and it won't take me no where in life.

I get to work this morning, and I've been at this new job for only a week now, and I get told I'm being let go due to my ability not being able to perform at a fast pace. Well, fuck me, last time I checked I got this job to LEARN the trade so I can get good.

So, here I am, in tears, because I lost something great, I live in a small town, so jobs are kinda next to none, I have bill's due next week and my old job, which now has been filled, left me fucked.

I've been applying at all the places I can, fuck, I'll even pump gas if I have to, but I sure look like a fucking loser. I can just imagine what my g/f is gonna think of this.

have you called your old boss?

maybe his new guy who replaced you does not have the ability to perform at a fast pace.

Delivering furniture, mostly was a sofa & love seat, and he is pretty relaxed on time to do it, so I doubt it. I'll call him later and find out, but I know the chances are pretty slim.

Cheer up bro. You are young. This is only a small hurdle. You will find something. If you are living at home then make the most of it. Dont waste time. Study and work.

Did you discuss this with your boss before they let you go?

Well that depends really. If the "worst of times" is you sitting on your ass not doing anything all day and spending her money....good girlfriend or not, if she was smart she'd leave.

Not saying you are like that, but it's possible the girlfriend might leave, depending on how bad the situation is.

there's a world of difference there. One is being a lazy ass and not trying to find work. The other is trying but being unable to find work.

When you've gone from making $5k a month working in the oil patch, to taking a pay decrease to $1700 a month, to trying to get INTO a career, it's kind of hard, living in a small town of 16k.

I moved to a larger city and I'm staying with my cousin, and spent all day applying at jobs all over the city (Regina). I know Friday is a terrible day, but next week I'll really put the hammer down.

And it's even better since my g/f lives here, and she accepts what happened and there's nothing I can do about the circumstances that happened.

Being let go after a week at the excuse of you not working at a fast pace is simply your boss not giving a fair chance. I would call him and complain , tell him that you will work harder. Try to convince him you are worth the money he's putting into you. You didn't even get a fair chance, if you get the job back work only as long with him to the point that you can get a better job, or start your own plumbing company.

Dude, the first week at a job is when you should be trying your absolute best to impress your boss. If you're working too slowly for them.... then what can they expect once you get settled in?

Have you considered this might be the universe/the great magnet/yourself telling you that you're meant for better things than becoming a plumber?

well if the TS is the second one, I he shouldn't worry about his g/f leaving him. If she's that shallow to not help him through a rough time, then good riddance.

They make more than you think. One of the guys I go deer hunting with is an electrician, he makes $80k + a year.
