So I just got my m44 mosin in the mail, and checked it out. Looks pretty decent actually, even the bore. Ivan staked my bayonet screw so that should be fun to remove.

I couldn't wait any longer though and slugged the bore. Wow .315! I can't imagine what crappy groups I'd get if I took some milsurp with .310-.311 bullets out and shot it.

I was going to waste some playing around with this, maybe a quick bed and float, even load for it but I don't know what bullets I'd use unless I can find someone to cast some for me.

Soyblog update: You know you're working on a russian firearm when an impact wrench both seems like a good idea and is actually required.

303 bullets are .311 or .312 I think. They should be good enough, you're not going to get great accuracy out of it anyway.

Yup, it'd be a nice looking wall hanger but I'm skeptical that it'll shoot worth a damn with such a large bore. Asking about such a thing in the MN forums is hilarious, usually yields responses like "just buy more ammo" or "just buy more MN's until you find a shooter".

Some of C&R crew here would call it being snobby but such responses have kind of solidified what I generally thought about MN crew. I'mf expecting a rifle to be somewhat accurate and not just dirt cheap is snobby, then apparently I'm a snob.

 I'm in the same camp as you. I want to buy ONE and have it be a good shooter.

Well this is why I'm considering owning an M44 and a 91/30. M44 for making fireballs and 91/30 for when I'd actually like to hit something I'm aiming at.

    I stopped caring about M44s. I now have Marshall Stalin's PPS-43.
