I do a lot of walking and recently, my knees have started hurting.
I haven't been doing anything for the last 10 days because I was trying to get it to go away, but it's not. I'm only 23.

I just started to ice it down for 15 minutes every few hours and I am now taking Aleeve. I just want to this heal. Any ideas?

I'm pretty certain it was caused by bad footwear and a bit of a limp due to blisters. Once it heals, I'll strengthen my muscles and knees in the gym so it won't happen again.

Are you overweight? Also, if you're walking differently because of the limp that could definatley be it.

I don't work out, but I am going to have to start.
    I am 6'1", 150lbs soaking weight, so it's not a weight issue.
I'm pretty sure it was me walking funny.
I just need this to heal so I can start doing squats :x:

I am 6'0", 170lbs, and I have the same problem. I have not tried squatting, as my knees behave weird after a couple of reps on a machine similar to this (dont know what its called):

By behave weird I mean they start to hurt. Were talkin between 140 and 200 lbs (appr) of weight on it, which is not alot. What do I do to get stronger knees / not hurt them? Specific exercises??

if you are a novice athlete do not EVER EVER EVER excerise on pain killers. thats a great way to mess up your knee really good.

a novice doesnt know the difference between a little soreness that can be toughed out and a potential serious injury in progress.

muscles will for the most part get over it. joints, better safe then sorry.

if walking is hurting your knees
-good running shoes. with serious padding and stability. it should have a LARGE soft heel pad and the shoe should be stiff throughout. you should not be able to twist it like a regular old sneaker.

do not overextend your stride. make sure you are landing on your whole foot. half your weight should be on the ball, half on the heel. if you cant feel it on both then you are doing it wrong.

to strenghthen your knees.. honestly the oldschool "step aerobics" stuff is pretty good for getting your knees ready for some more serious uses. give it a try go 2 weeks, then start with real weight, starting light and moving up weekly.

A friend of mine i was training tore her meniscus the FIRST time she went running for real and this was with a "professional personal trainer" shes now jacked until she gets surgery and 2 months physical therapy and rehab.
