Marcello Monteiro was in town for a seminar, and my instructor finally got his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It was a pretty big deal for our school, especially since there are not very many BB instructors in the entire state. Under 10, I believe. Some academies in Cali/Fla/Nevada probably have that much talent alone.

He's been training in Martial Arts for over 20 years in different grappling styles, and began his BJJ about 8 years ago I believe under Marcello and R. De La Riva.

I think the website is down for updates or I would link pictures. :)

I meant to ask you, did you ever compete against his blue belt world champion (Vanessa Smith)? I believe she is a purple belt now.

Yeah. Beat the brown belt that beat her in nogi, so didn't face her there. Went up against her in gi, got a flying triangle, I gassed, she passed my guard, and stalled out the match. I hate to make excuses, but I'd been reffing all day sans water and gave up 15 lbs. :( I really, really, really, really, really want to grapple her again. One of my two female losses ever and I KNOW I could win it.

Damn. Happens. There will (almost) always be a next time, though.

Yeah, nothing against Vanessa though. Most girls I could take on even gassed, and she was tough. And a great person, kept up with her after. Marcello is great too. It's just my competitive nature wanting to avenge it. Oh well, maybe we'll meet at Mundial.

Werd. I am super competitive, as well, so I know the feeling.

You better call me to wish me luck before my competition on the 14th (June).
