A&P My gf wants one of those small slim cameras....

Discussion in 'Lifestyle' started by LowLikeWhoaF150, Apr 22, 2006.

  1. What should I get, I want to stick with Canon or Nikon. For price I want to stay under $500.

I saw a tiny black Nikon camera with 8mp a while ago but I keep forgetting the model number and I can never find it on dpreview.

But I'm open to suggestions. Just remember canon or nikon. And no the S1 IS is not a slim girly camera that she can keep in her tiny purse.

Have had mostly bad experiences over the years with Nikon P&S. They're not of the same quality as their SLRs in any respect. I find the Canon P&S cameras to be a lot nicer.

Olympus is really good but I've pretty much hated the earlier digital stylus model line. Awkward operation and lower than average IQ. I'd suggest playing with one and getting some pics to look at and decide if it'll really work for you. Try it in room light and low light (I find it hunts for focus nearly as much as some of the Nikons do).

I'm probably going to pick up an SD630 in the next couple months, the SD700 adds another megapixel and probably some more noise but also gives you IS and a small (but mostly useless IMO) viewfinder. The larger 3" screen of the SD630 might appeal more.

Fuji F11 or F30. Their high ISO is so much cleaner than other P&S. Plus, starting F11 it has manual controls (f10 was fully auto).

edit: Take a look at these from F10, it uses the same great sensor. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/fuji_f10_samples.html, look at ISO 800 and 1600, which P&S can give you such clean pictures?

If you can ... wait ... there are some cool cameras about to come out from Nikon ... Look for the L5 and L6.

Thanks for the ideas guys keep em coming if you have anymore.

After I see a few suggestions that she might like and after I do alittle research/comparison I'll probably take her to the store to look at them to try them out and see which she likes the best just to tease her. She doesn't know I plan on getting one for her but she's always been saying that she wants to buy one for herself.

Then comes the suprise camera for her, then comes the thank you, me love you long time sex for me :naughty:

You sure you don't mean the S5 and S6?

Check em out when you can, but see how their focussing is.

Hey I trademarked that! :fawk: Where's my money! Conon™

One of the SD Canons would probably be a good choice.
