He saw the Forbidden Kingdom and we were talking about MMA and he goes "dude Jackie Chan would DESTROY any UFC fighter in his prime". I of course realize this is bullshit, but he honestly thinks Jackie Chan and Jet Li could destroy people like BJ Penn, GSP, Anderson Silva, etc... I told him I'd make a post on an MMA forum and see what people said and he agreed. Basically I'm making this thread so you guys can reply with your thoughts on whether Jackie Chan could win and show it to him and shut him up. :hs:

jackie chan trained at the peking opera school. acrobatics, choreography, stuntman, performance training.

jet li trains wushu. all choreography no actual fighting.

no. I love them both but they would get ruined in a real fight. and they both openly admit that.

The only HK action star that trains in MMA is Donnie Yen IIRC so I'd pick him to ruin their shit.

none of them train grappling cuz it doesn't translate to film well.

Jet Li could prob be decent in a sword fight :)

Jet Li did an interview on the DVD of Cradle to the grave (which featured Chuck, Randy, Tito, etc..) they asked him about fighting MMA guys he basically said they would kick his ass.

Donnie Yen is a great action star...too bad he hasn't been able to land any big name roles in Hollywood. He has the looks and skills to make it big.

Jackie Chan is a very tough guy. An Acrobat and an artist. Hes extremely tough and Jet Li is very strong and fast. I trained with somebody from the Beijing Wushu team that he came from. I guess they might be able to catch somebody offguard but you have got to understand that mma is broken down to a simple science. So they're not going to fight Jet Li or Jackie Chan like it's some glorified movie experience. It's going to be very direct and different for the two. I think if it were in an open environment and there were plenty of things around they could pick up as weapons. Then I would seriously recommend avoiding that shit.

Edit- Also, Jet Li has literally said, "There are plenty of guys off of the street who would probably be able to kick my butt" I think it was in Rolling Stone mag.

I think if they both trained to fight when they were younger they would probably be good fighters because they're athletic and certainly Jackie Chan could take a hit and keep coming, but no, they are not good fighters.

if i understand correctly jkd is a custom patchwork of different techniques from a variety of different martial arts tailored to a fighter's personal strengths and weaknesses, and i know a lot of MMA fighters train in jkd concepts schools
