Bought a dSLR for my trip to Korea/Thailand. Still working on my composition and such but figured I would post what I thought was my best picture from the trip.

    C and C welcome. :noes:

I'm glad I have time to examine every section of the photo before I am distracted by the part below it.

not too shabby, a couple of minor things :hs:

less foreground, rule of thirds, 9 times out of 10 having the horizon cut the picture directly in half = :nono:

colors are kind of washed out and dull looking, which is fine if the only PP'ing you did was resize and adding the border

    Thanks!

I tried to use the rule of thirds but couldn't compose is probably using it. :\

    \beginner

I wanted to use more sky but I liked the reflection in the water.

I did add the border using photoshop but used saturation in Lightroom to "boost" the colors. It was really dull before postprocessing in lightroom.

Again, thanks a lot! I'm open to more CC'ing!

You can get a good composition out of that via cropping. Give it a shot.

You want more blah grey sky? For what? :ugh:

I would have either liked to see the mountain in the first third and the building in the 2nd, or the building in the first and the bridge across the water stretching across the frame.

I don't mind the foreground in this case because of the reflection, but you could have cropped the image inside the bridge shadow on the right, and that would have taken out some of the empty foreground below where the building reflection ends.

Oh, and you could probably do a better job with the post work. But that comes with time and practice.

I think it's ok, bottom left is a little bit empty, but the rest is nice.

I think a crop like this makes it a little more interesting...

Also, I would shoot it in raw and underexpose it a bit, then fix the underexposed parts in photoshop so the sky isn't so bland.

Or do HDR and use a handful of remote strobes.

I dont know why people are so quick to go "more sky less water!" It seems that more often than not, reflections in the water are *considerably* more interesting than what's going on in the sky. Unless it's a pretty sunset/rise or interesting clouds, there's really not a lot going on in skies.

On the other hand, ugly water is certainly a no-no. Obviously if you're looking at polluted pond scum, then by all means, get more sky in there.

no, I like your idea of creating a horribly noisy photo more.
