For christmas I got a 13" black MacBook with a 2.0 C2D and 1 gig of ram and a 120gig hard drive. My mom said I could take it back and get a MacBook Pro if I wanted but I don't know anything about Macs, this is my first one. Looking forard to being a part of the Mac family!

congrats welcome and enjoy the bliss.

check out the software thread, and head over to www.tuaw.com for the latest in mac blogging.

be sure to run updates if your parents connection is nice and fast. could be some performance enhancing goodies there from apple.

here are some valuable tips from apple: http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/

Awesome thanks! I have always wanted a Mac but could never afford them. I am updating it now and I just got the bouncing globe thing telling me to restart so I guess I will do that now. I am trying out .Mac for 60 days for free and was wounder what your thoughts are about the service they offer. I will be checking out those websites right after the restart.........

here is some interesting banter about .mac

    http://arstechnica.com/staff/fatbits.ars/2006/12/22/6389

i know people who love it and i know people who hate it. i personally own my domain and have more email addresses then i know what to do with; so it has never been for me. see what you think, but keep in mind that it will eventually cost you 100 bucks a year.

Sweet Blair thanks for all the help! I have a few questions..

Is there a key for page down?
In windows hitting ALT enter adds WWW and .Com in a browser, anything like that here?
How do I select all? It use to be ctrl A
Is there any way I can have my dock on the boton not have that grey box behind it?

1)yes, hit the FN button and find the "pg dn" key that should allow you to page down; probably wont need it once you discover that dragging two fingers will allow you to scroll :naughty:

    2) ?????

    3) apple + A (this is the key with the apple on it), also a quick tip in vbulletin it is now ctrl+s to quick reply not "alt"

fucntion + down arrow is for page down on an ibook, probably the same on your macbook
look into camino/opera for your browser needs, firefox isn't the best on a mac, it's kinda "eh"
all your old "ctrl" needs are now "apple +" thing...so to copy is apple + c, to paste apple + v, and so on...
for a clear dock background, look into cleardock

also, look on versiontracker.com to get all your little apps that you think you might need...

Holly crap that two fingers scroll thing kicks ass!

On windows when you are in a internet brows you can type in yahoo and instead of typing in .com yourself if you hit ALT ENTER it will add it automatically.

Ok so the apple key will do most of the fuctions I am lookng for, those sites you posted are very helpful, thanks.

Man I now feel how my parents feel around windows lol. For the life of me I can't get transparent dock to work. When I install it I get this message..

The currently installed dock application may not be compatible with this version of TransparentDock, which was tested with Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.4 final.
Please check http://www.freerangemac.com for the latest update information. Thanks.

And when I start it up and click transparent nothing changes.
