Is it me or is it a bit OOF. I hope my 70-200 isn't soft at 200mm :noes:

    D300/70-200 @ 200mm
    ISO100
    F/5.6
    1/200 sec
    -1 EV

Handheld. I need to get my hands on a good tripod.

100% crop, yes i realize its off center but i dont give a fuck.

Any tips, tricks, pointers i should be aware of for next time?

Nice moon picture and it looks plenty sharp to me. Get a tripod and take 2-5 frames of it and stack them. You'll rarely get a clear enough sky to get a very sharp pic of the moon. Its a bright object and the atmosphere will give you some light diffraction so its best to shoot the moon when its at it highest point in the sky also.

Also stacking the frames as suggested will give you 4 or so shots that will each have slightly different diffraction due to water vapor being at different densities for each shot. This technique creates an image with a good average vapor density and therefore higher quality than a single image could have given you in most cases.

The darker part looks just like it does when the moon is entering the pre-umbra phase of an eclipse.

Great shots in here. To the original poster, you did an excellent job for a first attempt, especially hand held. To the other poster, awesome shot!
