ok im gearin up to begin my first attempt at building an AR....ive already bought a stripped lower and ive all the parts i want for finishing the lower. My question to those of you that have done these before is what tools should i expect to need for installed the stock/spring tube, and all of the trigger group parts. What is the learning curve for building a lower receiver?
Im gonna buy my upper fully assembled so im just asking about the lower.
    Thanks!

Go over to Arfcom and read a couple of their threads. I remember there being two threads that I used to look at when assembling my lower.

You basically need some punches and a huge screwdriver if it is an A2 stock are a carbine tool for a telescopic buttstock. I really cant remember what else I used. Just search over at Arfcom.

roger that i headed over to arfcom shortly after posting this and found everything i needed for building it.
Ive got a Vltor collapsible stock and a tangodown pistolgrip on its way to kick off my parts inventory. I got it all in the dark earth color scheme.
Does anybody know a good place to buy lower parts kits?
the only one i can seem to find is the RRA kits and CMT kits but the latter is sold out at the site i checked.

i should probably mention this is gonna be an M4gery build. I already have a 20" HBAR for my longer range shooting. I want a good quality single stage trigger parts kit.

punches and basic tools are all you really need, the proper wrench for the stock can be handy to have and there pretty cheap, its possible to do it with out though.

Just wait for your next gunshow to price and look around. That way if you find a receiver you want, you dont have to go through an ffl.

Yup, Pete is a good man. I bought several of my parts there including my AR upper. Tell him you are from arfcom and he will give you a better price.

Does Colt sell stripped receivers? If so, then I think it would be cool to get a 70s Colt m16 parts kit from Sarco, a Colt receiver, rra 2-stage trigger group, and a lower receiver kit

:dunno: Going to end up paying out the ass for it, basic Colt AR's start out at like $1100. Never understood why people sacride them so much Colt reciever is no different then my Stag or bushy lowers other then the logos, and they were alot cheaper. Should of said something a couple months ago I would of sold you my early A1 style upper.

I didnt even use a punch. I used a couple vise-grips covered in masking tape.

    Have fun :big grin:
