My list, but I think its all good taste and has a mix of films in there too. Ranked from 1 to 10 too.

    1. The Shawshank Redemption - One of the best storylines ever and the acting is top-notch. Based on the book by Stephen King it actually does something rare and builds on the book. The film made me read the book, rather than the other way round.

    2. Dazed and Confused - Sort of a teen drama, but created in a time where the stupid highschool 'American Pie' esque cliches were not as defined. A film based on one night should'nt work, but it does in this film, and the long haired guy just cracks me up with his drippy looks.

    3. Training Day - The best acting I've seen from Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, they make a great team in this film about a suspect narcotics agent. The film feels urban and gritty, which is correct since the film is based around policing the ghetto.

    4. Back to the Future 1. - Unlike 2, which I thought was only decent, and 3, which I really hated, I loved this film which contains the most favourite film scene ever seen, where Marty McFly is singing Johnny B Goode at the disco.

    5. 12 Monkeys - Fucked up, and I mean, fucked up storyline, took me ages to get head around it, but once it clicked I began to love the film for its complex storyline and acting.

    6. Taxi - The only subtitled film series I own, but they're really good, plus that female actor is fit as fuck. Amazing for a french film.

    7. Dawn of the Dead (1978) - Unlike the recent hollywood version, this one HAD suspense. Not quite as terrifying as Night of the Living Dead, which was black and white and basically fucked with my head, but it played the terror angle well, unlike the films out there these days who just throw lots of blood around and call it horror.

    8. The Ring - The only recently made horror film which actually made me slightly unnerved. The well scene and when that little girl went through the TV was really really good acting. Plot was great too.

    9. First Time Felon - About a gangster being sent to boot camp. Has it all, comedy, bling bling and serious parts. Love this film.

    10. GTO - A cambodian film I saw on AirMalaysia once. Was amazing and I watched it three times on a 22 hour flight from GB to NZ.

One of the best movies of all time. The only problem with it is that it is meant to not be figured out just by watching it. After spending awhile on google looking for explanations for it though (definative ones from the writers and directors), i love it even more than i did.

Man On Fire is way better than Training Day, and The Ring is bull shit. It sucks that most americans don't respect anime, just because it is a cartoon doesn't mean it is for kids.

My top 10 list (in order as I remember them, subject to change):

    1. Chinatown
    2. Kill Bill vol. 1
    3. Unforgiven
    4. Yankee Doodle Dandy
    5. Pulp Fiction
    6. Moulin Rouge!
    7. The Godfather
    8. Titanic
    9. The English Patient
    10. Manchurian Candidate (1961)
    11. The Exorcist

With the exception of YDD, the common thread running through all these is that they have either downer endings (1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) or that the entire movie is "dark" (1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11).

Yankee Doodle Dandy is just an awesome movie that belongs on any list.

One of the most brilliant movies ever made...it's positively flawless, except perhaps the weak-ish performance by Thora Birch. But, even that, at its worst was better than most performances in the majority of movies.
