Or at least the work I had to do today..

First was a community festival in St Matthews.

Then the Kentucky/Indiana All Star game. At first I was really excited about it because I get to shoot basketball AND I get to test the D3 in probably the WORST lit gym ever. I was pissed because..
    1. All-Star games are just layup after layup with no teamwork
    2. Apparently the D3 is awful in really low light..Big surprise there.

I really must admit that I was VERY disappointed with the D3 in lowlight. Even the 5D MkII focused better in this gym than the D3 did.
I had AF-C set to Focus+Release priority and was getting quite a few misfocused shots. So then I tried setting AF-C to Focus priority only and then the camera would either
    • Not fire while the action was happening
    • Fire after everything was over
    • Take one or two pictures and then stop
    • Take a long series of TOTALLY out of focus pictures
So, being that I have an excellently functioning MkIII, I think Im just going to consider myself lucky and not tempt fate anymore. Besides, lets be honest here, in a number of months, Canon will have a MkIV that will make both cameras look silly :mamoru:

What lens where you using? I think you might just be having bad luck with that loaner D3. Ive never heard a bad thing about d3 hunting in low light. My d700 can lock focus consistently in near total darkness, I would expect the d3 to be equal to or better? I've not tried shooting low light sports.. maybe thats a different story?

Its a 70-200/2.8. I think its just a different story. Apparently, Im not the only person who feels this way about it.
