I didn't shoot this wedding, obviously, as I'm a noob. But I did have my camera there and tried my shot at the wedding thing. Not only is this the first wedding I've had a camera at, but it's the first wedding I've really been to period. So I didn't really know where to be or things to look out for.

From what little I've read/know about flash photography, I've gathered that the flashes that come on cameras are bad. True or not, I've got into the perhaps strange habit of not using the flash even if more light is needed. Of the 60 some odd pics I took, these 6 were the only ones I felt came out even remotely decent (composition-wise. Even a few of these are on the blurry side). Many were a bit soft/blurry due to poor lighting and high ISOs/low shutter speeds, and I have no tripod.

The thing is... I try to stay away from the flash to try and avoid the appearance of "snapshot" pics with shadow-filled backgrounds and an explosion of light on my subjects. But on the other hand, my current alternative seems to be slightly fuzzy pics. In retrospect, I wish I would have used the flash. =\

Next up, a faster lens or a speedlight.

EDIT: Also this was my first time using lightroom. I shot raw. Where did my exif data go? =(

    True

At least you know how a flash should not be used. 10 steps ahead of most beginners.

Heh thanks. Still, given the choice of bright subjects with no backgrounds compared to blurry overall photos... I think I might prefer the first. I guess it's a lose-lose situation.

Yeah....Jack Bauer is on vacation until season 7. Gotsta switch it up....I am not sure if I am happy with the handicapped woman eating ice cream in a hottub. I don't really think that is a good representation of what I am all about....

Yeah I've seen tits' threads. I hope he doesn't come in here and vomit when he sees my pics compared to his lol.

But yeah I know about strobes, I just don't have any. I meant with on-camera flash it's lose-lose.

not bad. ironically, I just did my first wedding shoot also. They had a pro photographer there though (luckily, it was my uncle, so he was giving me tips and pointers while i followed him around). I need to get a speedlight. The SB400 i have works, but its not much better than the on camera flash.

It was also hard to go around taking photos when I was a groomsman, but I grabbed the camera when I could get around to doing so.

That isn't irony....Irony is like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife or rain on your wedding day...or It's a death row pardon two minutes too late...or an old man turning ninety-eight who won the lottery and died the next day. Didn't Alanis Morissette teach you anything...what you are talking about is a coincidence you shithead.

Speaking of the wedding photographer, I spoke with him a bit. He was shooting the D200. :h5:

He even asked me if I was shooting the D200 cuz he was like "I noticed the larger LCD on the back." And I was like "not quite, the D80." He had a crazy flash-a-ma-jig thing coming off his camera.

Hey viper, I hear you're a lightroom expert. Do you know why my exif data got lost in converting from raw to jpg?

There is nothing wrong with flash, even using direct flash. Learning how to balance ambient with flash  or taking it off camera
