My cousin recently injured his shoulder, and he went to go see his sports doctor, who he said is pretty broly. The doctor told him that when he's benching, he shouldn't go down all the way to his chest, because that puts more strain on his shoulders, and that you get the same effect from not going all the way down. Is this true? Or is it better to go down all the way?

if you're a chick, yes. going all the way down is the only way to do it.

:bigthumb: I just wanted to get that cleared up, because he was like "my sports doctor is broly so i'm going to listen to him". It is normal to feel a burn in my shoulders when I'm benching though right? because I always do.

It's true that the farther down you go, the more strain it puts on the shoulder capsule.

If your shoulders are HEALTHY it's fine to go all the way down.

Alright thanks, because I always go all the way down and I feel a nice little burn in my shoulders, but the burn in my chest always comes the day after.

make sure you're keeping your scapulae retracted (shoulder blades pinched together) during the entire movement

How can you get a complete workout in the area if you dont go down all the way? that extra few inches is using muscle to move the weight, it's not magic or something.

I thought board presses were to help with sticking points not induce chest hypertrophy.

they're not supposed to actually touch each other, but you should have them pulled back as much as you can
