I ran over to my house, edited, and saved as jpg, ran over to a photolab and had them printed. sold every single pic to familiy members for cheap (except a few that didnt qualify)

I was not their main photographer, i just decided to bring my camera along for fun

You sold pictures of your 15 year old cousin's birthday party to your immediate family.

    You actually took their money?

    Um, wow :ugh:

Did they have a main photographer? Because in about half of them no one is looking at your camera.

Some of them were family by marriage, it wasnt my idea to sell them, they WANTED to buy them off of me, then i said i could print them before the banquet

i charged them 75% less than what i usually sell them for

Yes, they hired a different photographer, they were looking at him, not me

i didnt want to step on the other photog's toes

You're the kind of guy that needs to see things happen on screen in a movie in order for you to "get it" aren't you?

Didnt want to step on toes but sold pictures to them

If I was the main photographer there I would have taken the money they already paid and walked if I knew you were doing that.

You arent familiar with event photography are you

sometimes miscommunication issues has caused more than one main photographer to be at an event at time. we have to co-exist :o

Like i said i wouldnt even do that, i would consider it a present for my cousin and family.

Obviously you are not a working pro, if ever i got hired for an event where part of my pay included the sale of prints, and the client hired another person to do the same, i would walk off and explain to the client that this is breech of contract (which i always have a signed exclusiveness agreement before i start work) The whole point of being a "MAIN" photographer is to do just that.

Oh i did give me cousin, her dad and her mom a nice sized amount of free pictures. I should have stated this, and underlined it, and put it in bold. It was distant relatives whom i hardly associate with.

Yes I am sure the contract does not state anything about "no one else can be there taking pictures" because there are 235345643 people there with compact cameras and camera phones and the like. I was clever enough to print them before the banquet, the main photographer spoke with me and he was 100% cool with what I was doing, he admired the fact that i didnt get in his way when he was doing his thing. He was paid in full prior to the event. I was not taking away his business.

    nuff said.

Damn I hate people like you. About 2 months ago we were doing Asian wedding, there were about 80 guests and I counted total of 65 cameras with about 20 DSLR's.They didn't have a video but if you were to gather all the pictures you could make a video.

Flash going off every second but like at ceremony and the hall we have to use photogenic 1250's to out power everyone. I even had a guest come up to me with dslr and asking me why her photos come out white.

And I love seeing guest with Mk3's and D3's...i smile and wave them my 5D.
But most of the people with dslr's are cool, sometime we exchange cameras, lenses, etc.

Yours was prolly a small event, but still its very rude to the main guy. Never ever bring your dslr to an event you been invited to. If you do, take pictures of your friends and family, but not poses of the main guy. Last time I saw a guest with D3, he was up and taking pictures the whole time, at the fucking ceremony he had the nerve to walk up in front of the video guy, video guy pulled him back so hard he almost went down :mamoru:

No not really. But keep going on guessing my personality :wavey:

What I meant was, I couldn't believe he was standing next to the main photographer taking photos of the same poses the photographer was. So I asked if they had one. Otherwise it would have been okay to take photos of a pose an amateur had set up. Everyone's covered that already though.
