My computer's CPU headsink or fan was spinning fast today

    This morning, my CPU(?) fan or headsink was spinning fast at a loud noise for 20 or seconds before it stopped; everything else is ok. What could be the problem?

    a cable might be pushed up against your fan. just open the case and look

    Maybe you have one of those smart fans that spin faster when your CPU is too hot. :dunno:

    I would check to make sure the fan isn't dirty and dusty. If so, buy a can of compressed air and blow it out.

    Better to take the heatsink completely off and wash it in soapy water. Cleaning off the dust won't clean off the manufacturing grease that made it catch the dust in the first place.
