trying to play a game, insert CD, autorun doesnt start up(i can hear the driver making the wirring sound like its trying to read it but it shuts down seconds later) and even the rare time it does i will click on the "play" button. the hourglass will show up then go away after 5 seconds with nothing loaded..

thats just one case of many, another case I try to open up a video in DivX and it will never load just sits there......

its like every 19 out of 20 times nothing will load and when it finally does load it will be like 5 minutues later when im doing something totally else and it just unexpectedly starts up

hmm, sounds like there is a process hanging up. If you had windows 2000 or so, i would normally suggest going to task manager and seeing what processes were taking up all the memory and processor, but you can't do that natively in 98. I would definately suggest upgrading to at least 2000 by the way.
