GUN My CMMG upper finally showed up *almost finished AR pics*

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Market Garden, Apr 18, 2008.

  1. So, it only took 3.5 weeks to get my upper from CMMG. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My CTR stock was supposed to show up today too, but I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow. I was lucky to find a stripped CMMG lower at a local shop, rather than having to deal with ordering one. Anyways, here's what I've got so far.

You'll remember my post from a few weeks ago when I ordered the upper.

cool. why'd you go 14.5"/mid-length... I thought the mid-length was better on the 16" barrel...

    you gonna get a MIAD?

  5. Yeah, I couldn't think of anything else.

  7. I might get a MAID. I like them. The grip it has now came with the lower parts kit. I went with the mid-length on the 14.5 for the longer sight radius, and because the longer gas system is a little more gentle than the shorter one.

  8. Not really. I just wanted a short, light, reliable gun. I'm going to keep it simple with the A3 rear sight and as few accessories as I can. It's just for plinking.

my understanding was that the carbine gas system was ideal for the 14.5" barrel because it maintained comprable distance from gas port to muzzle when compared to the standard 20" gas system. The mid-length carries through with these same measurements for the 16" barrel.

I love my miad. I started with the stock grip and didn't like it. I switched it out for a houge overmold, and it was okay. The miad is perfect.

  12. I've heard that too. Everything that I could find seemed to agree that while it's different there is no real world difference in functionality. I guess I'll find out this weekend.

    Where's the stock?

  14. USPS is holding it hostage. I was hoping it would arrive today, but it didn't. I'll be pissed if they don't deliver it tomorrow.

correct me if I'm wrong, but without the stock, the AR does not meet federal minimum OAL requirements... So I don't recommend posting pictures of it in it's assembled state. Keep the upper off the lower.

  18. Mostly. They did a pretty good job displacing the metal. I wouldn't say it's 100% correct, but I doubt the screws will ever move.

  19. Hopefully the batf isn't reading this thread. Just in case they are... I have no intention of firing it as it is now. Not to mention that without the buffer and spring in place it wouldn't cycle the action.

Eh. Skip the stock and put a riot grip on the barrel instead. People will look at you like you're nuts. :big grin:

the AR uses a buffer tube that is neccessary for operation. So he'll need a stock. Plus there are laws that govern firearms that will require one, as well. And what the fuck is a "riot grip"? You mean a vertical foregrip???

    Like what I have?
