Occasionally I'll go to burn a disc and it'll say something to the effect of "no connected device". I also have a direct shortcut on my desktop to the cd-rw and the icon will change to have the red circle with the ? inside of it. If I just do a restart 9 times out of 10 that won't cure it. If I do a complete shutdown and then start from scratch everything will be fine for some time. It seems like this only happens when it's been running for a day or so.

The comp is a Sony VAIO RX-550
    1.5g P4
    Windows XP

    Anybody have any ideas?:dunno:

I had the same thing with my old burner, but restarting it fixed it, never figured out the problem so I am not sure :dunno:

check if your cdr drive has new drivers and try upgrading?

Check for any new firmware upgrade for the burner.
Also is this IDE or Scsi?
Also try using a different powercable coming from the powersuply.
