Not sure what I want to do, i've got pretty much two rock solid options, regardless of which path I take I still have one more combat deployment to Afghanistan that I need to survive.

    1) Reenlist and go on Embassy Duty for 3 years and thengo work for the State Department as a federal agent. The State Department recruits Marines directly out of Embassy Duty to join the DSS.

    2) Get out after next deployment and go into the reserves with 4th ANGLICO in Palm Beach where i'll go directly to jump school and all that type of shit and become a Miami Beach cop and live the good life in the greatest city on earth 28 days a month.

Both options are practically guaranteed, so long as I survive my next deployment.

I've heard embassy duty sucks, but working at the state department would be neat. I've looked into it, but need a college degree for the area I'd want to go in.

I couldn't be a cop, so the second option would be meh.

Ah.. didn't know that. From what I read under the requirements on the warrent officer program comming from a different service was that you had to be an E-5 if comming from the Marines.

For the majority of non-aviator warrant officer jobs you have to be at minimum a E5, but not for aviation.

I vote for either option 1 or warrant aviator.

Option 2 puts you squarely into a career with much fewer options.

It's impossible to come off MSG without a degree.

MSG... is that the embassy duty? Ya you could probably easily get an online degree done, and for something like state dept doesn't matter who/what your degree is... as long as you have one.

I've NEVER talked to someone who has done MSG duty and didn't love it.

You're #1 plan is exactly the same path that I'm going to do. My plan is to get my package in for MSG duty while I'm in Iraq then get orders to school ASAP once I get back. I'll be looking at Staff Sgt around my first tour after school so hopefully I'll go back to school for det commander training and finish off my tour as a det commander.

The main thing about DSS agent selection though is that it fills up extremely fast every year and theres a LOT of down time while waiting in the pipeline to get selected so make sure you have a backup plan worked out so you aren't just sitting around jobless while waiting to get picked up by the state department. Coming from embassy duty doesn't mean you don't have to go through the same process everyone else does to get the job. It just makes your chances of getting accepted a lot better and assuming you aren't completely socially awkward you should have plenty of connections inside by the time your applying to help you get through smoother.

I've been thinking about the DSS in the State Dept for some time. I did PSD for EUCOM and AFRICOM for 2 1/2 years so I have the experience to start out. Just need my degree now.

Would you want to leave after your enlistment contract was over and go to college? If so do that then come back in.
