He got it for free from his father-in-law. It's a Winchester .30-30, lever action with a Simmons scope(seems real nice to me..:dunno:).

I'm taking it to a range this weekend. :big grin:

    Anyone familiar with this rifle?

I've never used it and plan on taking it to the range this weekend. I couldn't load a bullet with cocking the hammer, so I'm assuming the hammer has to be cocked to load a bullet.

My brother said he things you can put in about 6 bullets at a time and then go.

Anything else I'm missing? I'm a newb... :hsd:

If that means what I think it does, then yes... it's a side mount.

I load the bullets on the right side of the rifle.

nah, I mean, the scope, is it mounted from the side? usually a top mount gets in the way of ejection :dunno:

The shell ejects up and to the right... the scope is mounted directly on top and it doesn't get in the way.

maybe on a varmint rifle; a scope that large has no place on a rifle thats so short and quick.

    4-9x40 works great for hunting.
The lever action 30-30 has brought down more deer than any other rifle/caliber around.

That was my second guess, but you don't see 44's all that often.
