    So my brother was in the army as a 25Q for 4 years and got out a little over 2 years ago. The army sent him orders saying he had been recalled and was being sent to a Field Artillery unit in 3ID. He has been going to school full time for 2 years now and does not have a security clearance anymore so they they're reclassing him basically. I was wondering if he has a chance in hell of not having to report due to school or any other things you guys might know. Thanks a bunch for your help.

    25Q is a multichannel transmission systems operator/maintainer.

    He can get a deferment for school. I believe that it will last until the end of a semester.

    Obama announced today an additional 4,000 in addition to the 17,000 already planned to go over.

    And that doesn't come close to the number that has been requested.

    Damn these kids wanting to leave the military honorably and go to school. Let's call them back, even if they've done 1, 2, hell make it 3 tours in the middle east. Let's fuck them over as much as we can.

    Sometimes I wonder why I bothered with this shit.

    you signed a contract, you should've made sure you were ready to make the commitment.

    He signed a contract for 8 years, not 4. We had an IRR mechanic that got reclassed as a combat engineer when he was called up. :mamoru:

    How long do security clearances last before they have to be re-submitted? I thought it was longer than 2 years.

    It's fucking stupid to recall a 25Q too. Their equipment is outdated and useless. All of our 25Q shit sat in the motorpool last deployment, nobody cared about it.

    IIRC it's 10 years (Edit: except 5 years for TS)

    I know all about commitment (in the American army the words "reenlistment", "bad", and "economy" are pounded into your head as a fortification), but it would be sweet if the army could deploy one of these 25N fags who have shammed in Korea/Germany/TRADOC for the past 7 years instead of yanking me from the IRR for trying to make something of my life.

    Secret = 10 years
    TS = 5 years

    And yes you can keep your security clearance until your review comes up. Even if you got out after a 6year enlistment your clearance would still be good (including your TS because you already turned in your review paperwork at the 5yr mark).

    I honestly think that if he disregarded the orders - there would be no issues. Hopefully he didn't sign for them.

    IRRs that I deployed with were told this during our premob. Of course, by that time it was too late. :mamoru:

    caveat: We got that word from someone that was briefing the Battalion on something. We were not told this by someone with legal training. Your mileage may vary.

    And I googled "I need a second opinion" and this was at the top of the search results. :hsugh:

    I would never take it as fact...and *I think* you and I are saying the same thing.

    The Gov't would never go after someone that ignored IRR mob orders.

    Now with that said, if someone reported back to active duty - and then went AWOL, they'd be fucked proper like.

    Shot records? If you didn't maintain a yellow card - then I think you're hosed.

    Address - I think you keep it updated with AKO - good questions but I'm not sure.

    I may have missed this through all the posting, but if you get called back from IRR is it only for that tour? Or do you serve the remainder of the time left on your contract as active duty?

    Pretty much only the Army doing this amirite?

    Just for that tour. All of our IRRs got sent back home before everyone else. But then they also were called up before we shipped to our premob station. They spent more time in training before the deployment than we did.

    why the hate. No shit when I signed my paperwork I was told that the recall from IRR was a last resort just before a draft. Obviously this is not the case, it's simply another form of stop-loss except if you ask me about 1,000,000^1,000,000x worse since you woke up one day and thought you'd never wear that uniform again where as your stop-lossed getting fucked in the ass isn't so bad since being in the military can feel like getting fucked in the ass (ask accord) on a daily basis. So now you have a kid 2 years into college, becoming a productive member of soceity (higher amounts of higher educated individuals is the key to a good economy) and the government decides it is actually "worth" it to pull him out of school, reclass him (costing more tax payer money) and getting a guy who really dosn't want to be there. I'd take a shitbag no-nothing moldable private over a disgruntled "i hate the army" called-back specialist/sergeant anyday of the week. What the fuck is the military thinking? How can they fuck over people so hard and not give a fuck when theres all this hoopla over getting rid of stop-loss. I say keep stop-loss going strong before you start dipping into IRR's. I know which of the two I would choose.
