My brother tells me its a good idea to eat something sweet post workout

    its generally a good idea to get some carbs in post-workout

    but when you said "something sweet" I pictured you slamming a box of krispy kreme donuts or something

    Nah, he said to like eat a spoonful of jelly before I take my postworkout shake, as an example.

    I think this is a good idea in theory, but in actuality super overdone by most people. If you're a skinny twink and need to gain weight, it will certainly be a good idea, but I'm not sure this isn't more due to the extra calories. The actual amount of food/bcaa's/carbs needed to spike your insulin levels up is much much smaller than most people think. I did an experiment and cut out post workout carbs completely for a few months. All that happened to me is that I dropped a little fat, but keep in mind I'm not trying to gain weight. Now I take a little waxy maize post workout on my most important days (1 or 2 per week) and on the other days I just take straight protein.

    I think pur's suggestions of drinking a gatorade p/w is great. Only about 34g of carbs.

    Works best for runners and other athletes that destroy their glycogen stores during their workout.

    It's not bad for people like us, insulin is good after a workout

    it really is but a protein shake and a gatorade are WAYYY easier to get down then a full blown meal right after you work out.

    "To spike your insulin" levels? What lol? I intake 35g of protein within the first 20 minutes of my workout followed by a piece of fruit.

    my post workout meal yesterday

    1.5 scoops of ON whey
    a fruit by the foot (like a fruit rollup)
    and a strawberry shortcake ice cream
