So I picked up the 320 gig USB version of the My Book over the weekend. I've been eyeing the dual interface but the sale price (on the USB version) was better than my employee price (on either) at Best Buy over the weekend so I went for it.

I formatted the drive using Disc Utility. I used Mac OS X Extended. I went to transfer 12 gigs of music and it was transferring at USB 1.1 speeds. I'm running a CD 2.0 gHz iMac so yes I do have USB 2.0...

Anyway, in my frustration I decided to just exchange it for the dual interface version with FW400. So far so good...my question is should I format it using disc utility? Any benefit? And is it normal that the computer takes longer to boot up whenever the drive is connected? :hs:

**Edit** I think it was my own stupidity with the time I thought it should take to transfer that music. I believe it took around 8 minutes to transfer 12 gigs through FW400 and it took about 12 minutes through USB. Is that about right?
