Here's my best looking target yet, two full magazines, Remington 165gr JHP, 26 rounds, 5 yards:

Of course, two mags, plus one in the chamber is 27 rounds...where is number 27?

    Damn!

#27 was a deformed bullet causing an inaccurate flight...not operator error therefore ignore it :big grin:

    Nice grouping

if hes in a self-defense shooting situation he'll hit his mark....thats all that matters.....nice shooting man!

ive found that my comfort zone for handguns is between 25-30 feet...those are where i print my best groups.....this weekend i went to an outdoor range and the shortest pistol range they had was 15 yards.....i wasnt tearing ragged holes @ 15 yards but i kept all my shots on a paper plate....not bad seeing as the last time i went shooting was a month and a half ago....:squint:

either way good shootin' and keep it up

My groups at twice the distance were about twice the size.

Nice job. No need to move out to further distances until you feel more comfortable.

I came in to say 5 yards.... :ugh:

Dude, thats right in front of your face. You could THROW each bullet and probably hit the middle of the target. :bigthumb:

while 5 yards is not stellar range, getting a piece of 9 or 10 with all shots at 15 feet will be good enough for almost any home defense scenario.

I have targets of me at 25 yards. But I'm at work right now. Nor do I have a camera right now to take pics of them. My point was just that 5 yards is just too close to really prove any ability or accuracy.

15 yds is probably more ideal.

    Ideal for what?

To prove to you that I can shoot?

He's not saying "Me>WMD come check out these awesome targets that prove it!" It's the best he's been able to accomplish. Since you can group well at 5 yards, start moving out further each time you shoot.

I just didn't think 5 yds was anything special. I wasn't trying to start a firestorm.
    5 yds doesn't prove anything. It's not a big deal, I don't care anymore.

    Congrats.

    *Edit* for a missed word.

The vast majority of self defense situations take place at 10 feet or less.

If you can shoot a tight group at any distance it shows the fundamentals are there. You couldn't shoot that group if you had a flinch. Once the basics are setup, you can work back more. But then the majority of my handgun shooting is 3-7 yards, self defense range. If someones further than that I can likely run away and avoid the situation.

I need to get new sights for my G17 too. I've been leaning towards Mepro? Recommended or not?
I'd like them to be useful for home defense too (low light), for the time being at least, until I can afford a monster 1911 or HK for home defense. lol. Just slightly kidding.

I don't seem to have any major problems with the factory sights though. I'm actually really accurate with them. Is there something wrong with me? :hsugh:
