So my girlfriend just received her ccw in the mail today. She's exited to start carrying her xd-9 sub compact around.

Anyone have info on women specific holsters? Like all girls, fashion comes first, so needless to say she won't be dressing around the gun.

I only see her using a holster during the colder months when she can wear a jacket around. Otherwise I think shes just going to keep the gun in her purse or in her car. She already has her mind set on buying a Kahr PM9 in a few months.

There's a gun shop in town that sells a line of holster purses. The dude's wife picks them out apparently.

Is it just me, I could be wrong and make no claims of being an expert, but if she is attacked and the gun is in her purse, it seems like it would be harder to get to, or her purse could be stolen and she loses the gun too?

It's got an opening in the side where you keep the gun. It's in some kind of compartment that's away from the rest of the stuff in the purse. It was a pretty neat idea. It's nice because they can have their hand on the gun and be ready to shoot and most people wouldn't even realize that they're pointing a gun at them. He demonstrated it at my CC class and it worked well.

Purse carry isn't the best idea, and it's useless to leave it in the car. If she isn't ready to dress around the gun, and is more interested in fashion, perhaps she isn't ready to carry a gun.

I'm not sure I agree that she's not ready. I don't carry 100% of the time but I do when I feel I need to. I think htat carrying 50% of the time is better than not carrying at all. Sure, there is the chance that she will get mugged on that day that she goes to a special dinner or something and wears clothes that print like hell and can't carry.... there's also the chance that it may happen on the day she IS carrying.

She's an adult, it's her judgement of whether it's a time/place she should be armed or not.

I really don't like the purse carry because a purse snatch is so easy to do and it will remove her weapon from her right away. Same with leaving it in the car - car is stolen = no gun.

But both are better than nothing.

FIST makes women specific holsters for just about anything.

Congrats on her CCW, I'm still talking mine into it. She does have a nice little 1911 all ready to be carried, though.

I don't see what that has to do with her being ready to carry a gun. But I agree that purse carry isn't the greatest thing to do. We'll see though, if she can find a comfy holster that she can dress around, she might carry more often.

Lucky for me shes a bad shot

Cool, thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

I still need to talk my woman into getting a CCL. Even if she did get one, though, she'd never carry a gun. She still looks at me weird and gives me a hard time when she sees me put mine on.

Have her look around there. I haven't personally owned any of their leather, but know lots of people men and women that do and love them. Their holsters do look nice in person and seem to be made very well.
