Sounds like you are. What are you running w/ it. Make sure it has proper ventilation.

What kind of headunit are you using, and where is your gain set? I've not had a single problem out of my Brutus BX1000D so far.

i'm running an aftermarket JVC head unit that came with the car

i think that might be the problem.. because its 40wX4

and proper ventilation ? how do i do that? it is mounted on the back of my sub box

and im running two Phoenix Gold tid15ds

Where do you have your gains set at?

If you have them set to high, your amp might be clipping when you turn it up. So it shuts off to protect itself, and the speakers from damage.

I REALLY doubt the amplifier has clipping 'protection'. And if it did, thats a terrible way to prevent clipping. Decent clip limiters simply scale back the input. Most users would send the amp into clipping everytime they played it ;)

The headunit's power output wouldnt have anything to do with why your amp's shutting off.

Exactly how loud are you playing it? What is the nominal impedence of the speaker load presented to the amp? And what is the amplifier rated to be stable down to?

The amp is stable down to 1 ohm. The subs are probably dual 4 ohm voice coils, so he can run it at 1 ohm. I doubt that the JVC head unit has a high voltage output, so I'd imagine the gains are set pretty high. The gain on my HiFonics amp is about 3/4 up, and I'm running an Alpine CDA-9807 with a 4volt max output, and I play it fairly loud, but the amp never gets really hot, but it has good ventilation too. If your amp is mounted to the back of your sub box, and that is up against the back of the seats, it may not be getting enough air to cool it down. Next time it goes into protection, feel the amp, and if it is really hot, then that is your problem. If that's not it, check the amps ground, in fact you should probably do that anyway.

is this after playing them loud for a long time? because the amp may just be getting real hot, check it to see if it is. Make sure the bass boost is all the way down, and that the low pass filter is at about 70-100hz.
