    heres a sample-50% of a center crop

from what ive seen, it should be alot sharper than that.

    iso 400, f/2.2, 1/125, canon 20D.

Whats wrong? the lens is clean, it looks perfect in the view finder. that was shot in L-Fine, but even in RAW it gets the same effect...

maybe your camera front/back focuses? But if it focuses correctly with other lenses, maybe this sample of the 50 is making it front/back focus.

That's out of focus (you can see halos, not just blurring).

From the small sample pics you posted it looks fine...

Post a 100% crop of something shot at 1.8, 2.8, 4.0 and 5.6 if you really want an accurate test... Something like... a porcelain figurine. You could also try taking a picture of something larger from a furthur distance... like a...... bush. See if it's sharp and or in focus at different aperatures. Make sure you use a tripod for your shots... MLU if needed.

My 50 1.8 has a real tough time focusing. Indoors it drives me nuts when it's searching. But when it hits, it's nice and sharp. I only use my 18-55 when I need to be really close. If I can stand back far enough to use the 50 I do.

LOL, you were probably too close to the subject. I think the closest focusing distance is 1.5ft. Anything closer than that, will be out of focus

How is 1000 pics going to help us? We need at least 1500 to get a good general idea on what's going on...

I'd be more concerned about the 2 vertical lines running through your image.. you have a filter on?

I think you were too close to focus on that, anyway.
