For around 2500-4000 max what would be a good car to get. I was considering the 9c1 caprice which comes with a lt1 350. You can get those at auctions all the time for 2000-3000 the only reliability problems ive heard about them are the trans which can be rebuilt for 1200 or so with a decent warranty. or maybe a fox body stang which come a dime a dozen. Im looking at reliablity 1 and performance 2.

I think the caprice is rated 260 or so h.p. and runs 15's,16's.
I have no idea what the stangs run but i think they come with 220 hp huh?

Foxbody.... those Caprice's are soooo heavy if you plan on racing it at all.

    1987-1992 5.0 = 225hp, 300lb/ft.
1993 = 205hp, but i am not sure if this was downplayed to amke the new 94 mustang look better, or if the 5.0 H.O. had been making this much power all along
1993 Cobra's have a special 5.0 with 235 hp and 285 lb/ft., this engine making more usable power in the higher rpm range

    1993-1995 LT1 = 275 hp, 325 lb/ft
1996-1997 = 285 hp and the same torque

if you want something that is "fast" and fun to drive i think the chioce is the fox
if you desire something with good power but mosre usable everyday for passengers and such go with the caprice or impala SS

both are slick, fun, and respond well to mods

lol itll only be me no passengers. I do plan on putting in a system is it true that mustangs are "bass traps" ?

I want something pretty fast but i still want it to be reliable. Ive got a spare 5.0 engine except its not a h.o. its a regular efi 88 ford engine/car (88 ltd wagon) the fuel pump went out and its so damn ugly i just pushed it off into the woods. im sure stuff like the a/c alt and all that would work

Since the mustang has about the same power as the caprice and is alot lighter it would pretty much be more responsive and a tad quicker right?

You may have already known this, but since it wasnt stated in your post the Caprice's LT1 put out 260hp and 330lb-ft of torque. Running good it should be a mid to low 15 second car.

The difference between the LT1 in the F-bodies and the Caprice is in the heads. The Caprice has iron heads, which actually flow a little better but have half a point less compression. The LT1 in the F-bodies also had a little more aggressive cam, .450/.460 (int/exh) in the Fbody vs. .417/.429 (int/exh) in the Caprice.

Like already stated though, the Caprice is heavy, doesnt handle well and the only advantage I see with it is the capability to carry more people and luggage. I'd personally go with the stang.
