Strange that no one has said A Clockwork Orange yet... Then again, I don't know if that is technically science fiction... I mean, we did read the book and watch the movie in a science fiction humanities class I had a few years ago...

Gotta second Forbidden Planet. GREAT story, the scale of the structures and all the imagination that went into that story was incredible.

Buckaroo Bonzai, the dvd came out a few months ago. A must buy.

The ORIGINAL War of the Worlds

A cool Peter Weller & Bruce Campbell movie: Screamers. Don't let the name fool you.

I'm surprised Back to the Future wasn't mentioned, or even Ghostbusters. :)

Ones I recommend that haven't been mentioned already

Destination Moon (1950) - first of the 1950s SF movies
It Came from Outer Space (1953 ORIGINAL, NOT SEQUEL)
Invaders from Mars (1953 ORIGINAL, NOT REMAKE)
    War of the Worlds (1953)
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
    Unearthly Stranger (1963)
    Seconds (1966)
    Westworld (1973)
The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984)
    Ghost in the Shell (1995)

If you liked Krull, you probably also liked Dragon Slayer.
