Just go here and look at the damned thing... http://gamesbyemail.com/News/DiceOMatic

So..... you run a site that lets people play traditional board games like backgammon and risk and such by email.
Eventually you get a large enough population of loosers... ummm... users.... that people with personality disorders start playing.
Those people run the numbers and start bitching that your algorithm to simulate dice throwing isn't dicey enough for them.

You probably have some personality disorder of your own (I submit that taking people like this rationally and not simply ignoring them IS a personality disorder), what do you do?

You build a 6 foot tall machine that is capable of rolling dice some million times a day, photograph said dice rolls and then upload them to a server.

A fucking machine that is capable of physically rolling real actual dice a million plus times a day, then photographing the results and uploading them to a fucking server.

I am a whole lot of impressed and just a whee bit scared.

Where did you find out he was lying? I got my original link from Slashdot. I supplied the link at the top of the thread from dude's site. I haven't seen anything about him lying. Do you have a site to back that up with?

I like how he makes this complaint:

right before going into detail about that contraption and all that is involved in making it work.

Like I said, he has a personality disorder as well.
I mean seriously, a healthy person would have just laughed at all the waisted effort those people went through and went on with there lives. To have gone through this much trouble is just... fucked up.

On one hand the boy needs help. On the other hand, to be able to build something like that... there be some talent.
And on yet the other hand the idea has been purposed it is all a giant forgery. Now THAT might be a healthy way of dealing with those loons. But having your forgery put up on slashdot, maybe that is a bit too far.

Still waiting for evidence the dice machine story isn't straight up.

He's talking about the randomization programs he was using before building the machine. People were complaining the programs were not random enough.

I don't understand the whole faking thing either. The video shows the machine with the site's URL printed right on the glass.

How can the algorithm be wrong. Wouldn't it just be a random number generator that picks between 1 and 6?

technically speaking from a programming view, a random number generator isn't truly 100% random. most of the time they are really really long strings of numbers, and they repeat after millions or w/e iterations. to care about something like that and bitch about it is gay on an epic scale
