Hey guys. I'm just seeking some help for an English paper I'm writing. It's on bands that write lyrics about places that you know or have been to and help you relate to the song on a deeper level.

So far, I've found a few bands for my local area (Long Island, New York) and some for Virginia (Blacksburg, Virginia), but I need a few more.

    Bands for New York:
    Straylight Run
    Bayside - Montauk

    Tri-State Area:
    Taking Back Sunday

    Rainmarket - Bristol

If you want an example, here is what I am talking about:

Straylight Run - Your Name Here // Lyrics

    Go east on Sunrise Highway,
    Turn left at Carman's Avenue,
Go right at the first stoplight,
And I'll be outside waiting for you,
Oh, I'll be waiting for you.

(Carman's Avenue is a left off of Sunrise highway. things like that.)

    As well:

Bayside - Montauk (Montauk is a town on Long Island)

    It's getting cold.
Thought it was too soon to tell
    but it was terribly old
    The lights went out
    and darkness filled the house
on tiring night under a Long Island sky.

If you hear this and you think you're ready,
    then meet me in Montauk
where we'll write out in the sand...

So, what I'm trying to say is that my essay will be on how a person can relate to a song more if it's about a place that they live or have been before. Hopefully it will turn out to be an interesting essay.

So, any genre of music, just give me the artist and the title of the song in which it talks about a location, and the location that it talks about. I will make sure that I add you as a source to my essay. :)

How is that for a trade... you get to be a source in a college essay ^.^

" rake up all the leaves in pleasant valley
it's the last day of my visit upstate new york
to pay respects to the old man" (I used to live about 20 minutes from PV. The location doesn't have much to do with the rest of the song (which is about watching his father die,) but those lyrics are the opener for the song, and since I can actually picture specific places in Pleasant Valley, and helping an old BF rake leaves there and stuff like that, it makes the entire rest of the song seem more vivid and real.)

The Pogues - Fairytale of New York (talks about NYC, vivid descriptions I'd say. I've only visited the city, never lived there, but it mentions places and scenes that are very familiar and specific.)

    Well traffic's kind of bad
They're widening easy street to fit more suvs
They're planting baby trees to grow to shady peaks
A little shelter from the sun or the upper tax bracket
Here on the cul-de-sac we're not giving back until the community repents

Cause we can't afford to be generous
There's closing costs and a narrow margin
So go earn your degree and we'll take you out to lunch
You can work for us but you gotta eat em all up

Yeah one more mouth full and we will be happy then
Yeah one more mouth full and we will be happy then

Out west they're moving dirt to make a greater Omaha
Another franchise sold so there's even more restaurants per capita
And they all got a drive-thru yeah, who's got time to dine
Although the floors are clean, the color scheme it compliments me every time
So no one starves in this cattle town
The semis pass making squealing sounds
And its all you can eat and they will never get enough
They'll be feeding us, they'll be feeding on us

Just one more mouthful and they will be happy then
Yeah one more mouth full and we will be happy then

All those golden fields, lovely empty space
They're building drug stores now until none remains
I've been driving now for 100 blocks
Saw 50 Come and Go's, 60 parking lots.

Yeah one more mouthful and they will be happy then. WOO
Yeah one more mouth full and we will be happy then

    Yeah one more, one more...
    Just one more
    Just one more
    Just one more
