This is what the full evolution of the drills and concepts we worked on this weekend looks like, using the High Gear suits.

Shit was intense. I was standing like 10 feet away.

    Thats pretty awesome.
Is it just a general self defense class? No particular art form?

I dunno whats so ugh about this, we routinely practice 2 attackers on 1 scenario all the time, its one of the craziest cardio activities i've ever done and it hurts like a bitch.

The fact that these scenarios involve fighting 2 attackers armed with firearms is what is :ugh:

I mean, it's generally good to be ready for anything, but practicing how to defend against guns seems pretty...useless.

Actually watch again only 1 has a weapon and that's probably why they would even fight back or start it in the first place. They wait until the attacker turns his head/distracted and grabs for the gun takes him out then goes for the next unarmed guy. It's only smart if they both had guns then fuck that shit even Vera if he were alive wouldn't try that.

That looks like it's fun, but having a gun is a better plan.

thank god 2 people cant carry guns at the same time, otherwise that drill would be less self-defense, and more 'how to get shot in the fucking head by the guy with a gun in his wasteband.'

this is training from Tony Blauer's SPEAR/ PDR system. its employed by lots of high level military and LEO operators and the philosophy is in a life or death situation you can either give up and die for sure, or at least fight back and have a CHANCE of living.

do some research. it's legit training being embraced by a lot of people and is based in solid scientific research, in addition to watching countless hours of attacks caught on tape a reverse-engineering drills to deal with things that really happen in an OH SHIT situation.

lots of guys who took non-fatal gunshot damage and survived to fight back because of this training would disagree.

I absolutely, 100% agree with this concept. I'm just saying that knowing how to fight is less useful than knowing how to fight AND having a gun.

Not really. The vast majority of people don't know how to use a gun properly. And I don't mean that they're poor shots (though most are) or don't know how to operate it (though many don't). I mean actually employing it in an attack. Holding it out at arm's length within reach of the person you're pointing it at isn't smart. It opens you up to having your gun manipulated (grabbed, shoved, deflected, even taken away).

Like Nobones said, fighting back is (almost) always better than not.

well like i said, this stuffs in use in law enforcement and military, i'd say the majority of people there this weekend own and use guns. but you can't always count on having it at hand. certainly nobody would say this training is to replace the need for weapons proficiency.
