In my MT class I got stuck with a new guy that apparently is slightly retarded. After ten + minutes of working on kick catches he attempts to check my kick. I pulled back and ask him wtf he was doing. I kick again, this time he waits then checks the kick. I drilled the very top of his shin. Now my leg is looking like this and more and more blood seems to be gathering down my leg and around my foot. I've had quite a few dings before but nothing that bruised like this before. Is this normal or should I got to the doctor?

I personally wait it out if it isn't urgent, but go if you feel like you need to obviously.

I hit with the shin, the bruising I think is from blood draining down. I don't think the shin area holds bruising well because it is just skin wrapping bone. The area around my ankle / foot is now turning purplish too.

I was at work, but in a friends office who had a camera. I tried using the one on my phone but it was pretty grainy. I did get some weird looks though.

I'll probably hold off on the doc, my roommate found pictures of something similar called compartment syndrome where they had to pull out necrotic flesh and I got worried.

How long do you have to do MT before you can get a kick checked and not look like that?

this is when blood flow is restricted, since there seems to be blood flowing down away from the bruise, i doubt it's compartment syndrome. but i hold no medical degrees so don't trust me.

also, you said you struck with the shin? in that case, there's no tissue to really compress and cause that medical condition.

then you would get a hematoma (sp?) on your shin. Blood doesnt just well up down there because you hit your shin. you probably turned it over too far and pinched the shit out of that muscle that runs right down next to your shin between your shin and his shin. It is EXTREMELY painful and leaves bruising similar to that if you bruise easily.

but i have to side with whoever posted, it's a bruise, you'll be fine.
