this is something ive been putting up with for a long time.

when i'm in word - on a mac or PC actually - and i select a line of text and reformat it (making it bold, underlined, increasing font size, etc)

word freaks out and reformats THE ENTIRE DOCUMENT to that formatting, and i have to keep CTRL-Zing until its undone.

it's incredibly annoying and google didn't help me.

    any ideas?

Are you somehow editing the style rather than the line itself? If you edit the Normal style it would change everything in the document to that. If you select a line and do ctrl+b to make it bold, does it still happen?

thats the best idea ive heard yet. i tried turning off all syle tracking and it still happens.

and yes - if i select a line and ctrl B it happens.

it even happens if i use ctrl D and change the formatting using the dialog box.

Copy the text into Notepad, then copy the text from Notepad back into a NEW, DIFFERENT Word document. Then redo the formatting changes.

Once a Word document's format codes have been fucked up, there's nothing you can do to unfuck them. It's a pity Wordperfect tanked, because Wordperfect would let you see the format codes and edit them manually if you needed to. No such option in Word.

You wind up with nerds here who will rank on you for that, but all office software in general makes me wind up wanting everyone at MS dead, or at least suffering.

I mean why the fuck is it necessary for notepad to print a fucking page number on each sheet?

Assholes, if I want a fucking page number on the sheet, I'll type the page number.

Wordperfect was better than Word will ever be, actually.

I guess I can file that in the same box as your "I love man buttsecks" comments. I'm happy for you... But that lifestyle just isn't for me.

So you can keep your Blue Oyster and your Wordperfect.

    I'll keep Hooters and Word.

god, MS Word is such a piece of shit. i use it because it somehow became the standard, but it is such a horrible piece of software to work with. formating is a pain in the balls.
