I use Office v.X on my Macs because that's what I acquired in college and I haven't really had the money or opportunity to upgrade. The main limitation I run into when working on documents created in Windows is as follows:

Embedded objects in documents usually don't render, instead I see a big red X. This is mostly an issue with MS Equation objects, but also sometimes happens with embedded pictures (especially in powerpoint).

Is this fixed in Office 2004?

I don't have a good solution, but I generally use LaTeX for my documents instead of Word for exactly the reason you describe.
