MS Office vs. MS Works

Discussion in 'OT Technology' started by ShArKy's_IsLaNdRaVe, Oct 14, 2004.

  1. I'm buying a laptop soon and I want to find out what is a better productivity word processor/spreadsheet/presentation program. Most laptops with Windows XP come with both Microsoft Works and Microsoft Office. I want to find out if I work on something on MS Works on a laptop, will the file be compatable later when I open it using MS Office on my desktop PC?

Does MS Office come a serial key that is enclosed with the laptop out of its box, or do I need to purchase the software separately? I am more accustomed to using MS Office than MS Works.

Works is a stripped down version of Office.

You will be able to move documents between the two, but you will probably end up loosing formating or other stuff that word ahs that works doesn't.

    Just get Office.

I vote to get works. Office is more useful, and you'll likely need it, but Works has a BUNCH of cool software that you may like. Personally, I think it's worth it just to get Streets & Trips!
