I grew up using MS FrontPage as the core for my websites. I would then add embedded Flash, Java, or whatever extra apps I needed.

Anyways, now that MS doesn't make FP anymore, what is a good suitable website creation tool? I want something basic that will allow me to create the backbone, and add other apps as I see fit. FTP capablity is also a requirement.

Can anyone recommend something good? Oh, I'd rather not pay hundreds of dollars for a very basic website authoring tool. Also, I have tried a few freebies that are avaliable for download, but I can't really seem to get into them.

Do you really have an issue doing the coding yourself or looking to save time at the expensive of page size/compatibility?

Sure I can do html. I just want something that will allow me to work on the core of my website with a simple easy to use interface. Doing html is getting tedious for me. Again, nothing fancy.

One thing I liked about FP, I believe Dreamweaver does it too, is that fact that I could do server side authoring. For whatever reason, I dislike creating or modifying html pages and then having to upload them. I prefer server side authoring, and FP always gave me that option.

You can do "server side authoring" with many ftp clients and your preferred text editor.

That's what I usually do when I'm ftping it up in my hood, son.

ftp with transmit, edit with bbedit.

If you're on windows, I like cuteftp and it's built in editor. I believe smartftp does this as well.

    I recommend FlashFXP for ftping.

I use frontpage sometimes also... what is wrong with keeping FP 2003 running?
