i shit you not MRE's in their current form > ship food. We procured like 4 boxes of them and ate those for like a week instead of the shit they serve and it was like we were eating as kings :)

I shall be a happy camper indeed then. The boat food is not the greatest thing, but its three squares. I always filled up :big grin:

Anything is better than Shit on a Shingle, Sliders, Rollers and Hockey Pucks.

Nothing beats ship chili mac and Texas Hash though. ;) Well not many things beat it.

I would much rather eat a MRE than surf & turf on the ship. At least you know the MRE will taste good. Eating lobster tails on the ship was like chewing a mouthful of rubber bands. The steak wasn't much better.

the old mre's (94- 98?) had some good dessert though. the pound cake was good and the oatmeal cookie bar that looked a lot like a knife sharpening stone was the most sought after thing of all.

Our IMP's are about 1200 calories each, if you eat every last bit of it. Not exactly high calorie considering I eat 3500 a day normally.

Rice, ground beef, diced tomato/onion/peppers, pinch of garlic, dash or 2 of chili powder, ground pepper.

Basically, the cooks take leftover rice and ground beef, throw in some veggies with seasoning and wah-lah. IMO, it's one of the best meals on the ship. Usually served at Midrats along with chili-mac.

That's because you're a depressed, misanthropic Marine reservist who spends his free time peeing while sitting down
