MP - Maschinenpistole "machine pistol" in english
SD - Schalldämpfer "sound dampened" is the literal translation

SD is the suppressed model, I know that for sure. BUt you need sub-sonic ammo to use it, and its power is greatly reduced because of this.

But, if you need to sneek up on someone and put 10 bullets into them without someone 25ft away knowing, that is what you need.

Actually the SD is designed to drop supersonic loads to subsonic velocities, so subsonic ammo is not even supposed to be shot out of it.

The A-series is the regular MP5, the SD-series is the integrated sound suppressor models.

The number at the end designates stock and fire control.
    1- Safe-Semi-Full Auto/no stock
    2- Safe-Semi-Full Auto/fixed stock
    3- Safe-Semi-Full Auto/adjustable stock
    4- Safe-Semi-3 Burst-Full Auto/no stock
    5- Safe-Semi-3 Burst-Full Auto/fixed stock
    6- Safe-Semi-3 Burst-Full Auto/adjustable stock

So a MP5SD5 would be a fixed stock, suppressed model with the ability to fire single shots, 3rd bursts, or full auto.

integral suppressors are great like that: they take a perfectly good barrel, and port it in such a manner so as to allow the expanding gasses to bleed off in a controlled manner. this keeps them from making that signature crack of the gunshot. the other part of the crack is the bullet reaching supersonic speeds. most integral suppressors bleed off enough gasses that the bullets passing through them never break the sound barrier. this also renders the round being fired at such low speeds severely useless, ballistically. you have to use far more rounds to do the job, because without proper speed, pistol rounds won't perform the way they're supposed to, which is expanding. they won't open at such slow speeds.

I believe Hechler and Koch invented it, but I'm not sure.
