I recently dl a complete album in WinMX and it comes as one whole file. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to break it up into individual songs?

    Like a program or something....:dunno:

name a legit use for winmx that is not better accomplished through another means?

and downloading music w/o the express consent of the author/owner is definitely illigal.

Is there anything besides mp3 splitter b/c it only lets me split the file up 3 times and i need to do it more than that. Also is there another one that i don't have to pay for or will have to with most programs?

You're correct, WinMX itself is not illegal, it potentially has many legitimate uses (downloading free software or public-domain music for example). However, the use mentioned in the first post is illegal (in the US).

With all the illegal discussion aside, is there anyone else that knows of a program that will split up a larger mp3 file into segments (regardless of how i obtained the file)?

I've used four or five of them on Linux, all of which work well, but I'm guessing you want to do it on Windows ;)

Nero has a built in sound recorder, in which you can split the songs.

WinMX, or any other peer-to-peer softwares are not illegal.

NASA uses BitTorrent (peer-to-peer software) to distribute Worldwind.

heh. Well so others will know. Worldwind is like Keyhole (recently bought by Google). Keyhole requires a license, Worldwind is free. It allows you to view satellite images (not live) of the world.

Why don't you split the first two songs from the big file, so you have song 1, song 2, and the rest of the songs, then do it again for the big file until you have them all singled out?

Nero will do it before you burn it.. I do it daily.

As far as WinMX, it is perfectly legal. What you obtain from WinMX is up to the user. There are MILLIONS of freeware and royality free music, movies, and software.

Anyone that twists WinMX into being illegal needs their head examined..
